A rare personal post

I’ve been struggling to figure out how to write this for over a week. I’m sure it’s still going to be ramble-y and weird. But I’ve been needing to get it out, even if none of you read it.

Last Tuesday I was on the other end of what I can only describe as “cyberbullying” at the hands of an acquaintance/”friend”. I feel silly calling it cyberbullying b/c it only happened over the course of one night, but I don’t really know what else to say. It doesn’t really matter what happened, other than I was attacked from multiple places on the internet by this person about how everyone hates me, I’m so annoying, no one likes me, etc. I realize that I am 22 years old and that kind of stuff shouldn’t matter. As friends have pointed out, saying “your’e so annoying no one likes you!” is completely middle school.

But you know what? It still hurts. Even though I logically know that I have friends, people who love me, and most people who saw it happen (part of it was semi-public on Facebook) have said she is horrible for doing it and out of line, it still hurts. I am a 22 year old woman and it still got under my skin, and now whenever I’m around our mutual friends I worry about my behavior, the things I say, if these people talk behind my back or find me annoying. I don’t care if people don’t like me - that’s their right. But I do care if it’s someone I think I’m friends with and I actually annoy the hell out of them.

And I have a support system. My sorority family has been here for me to talk to and cry to a little and support me; my boyfriend and other friends are here for me. I have someone I can talk to about feeling insecure. But then that really got me thinking of cases like Rehteah Parson, or countless other young men and women who have killed themselves after being bullied. If I was affected by something so small, as a fairly secure adult with a good support system, how are people who deal with bullying daily supposed to cope? I don’t ever think it’s “justifiable” to kill oneself, I’m just saying that I understand from my brief taste of it how quickly someone can start feeling hopeless.

I wish there weren’t bullies in the world. And I wish that bullies were something that magically went away when you are an adult, but they don’t. Bullies remain bullies. Some of us are content to go on with our lives dealing with people we don’t like in small doses, while others feel the need to personally attack others. I don’t even think of being cruel to the people who annoy me. I wish others felt the same way.

According to reports, Louie the cat has refused to take part in the oft-practiced kitty pastime known as “boxing.” Usually, a cat will see a box, lie down in it, and stay in that position for an indeterminate amount of time.

Not Louie.

The cat’s owner tells The Fluffington Post that Louie outright rejected the box he was presented with last week.

“I thought he would love it,” says Roger Blake. “He just stared at me like, ‘what am I supposed to do with this?’ I was really taken aback.”

Though not unheard of, Louie’s behavior is considered unusual among experts.

“Louie should have had no reservations accepting the box as his temporary home,” says feline behaviorist Linda Fiore. “It seems that, sadly, he has forgotten how to cat.”
